10 Audible Books to Make you Happy and Healthy

running a bed and breakfast Apr 20, 2021

This is my curated list of 10 audible books to make you happy and healthy.

I’ve become a bit addicted to listening to Audible books. But, whilst I love reading fiction books of most genres, I prefer to listen to non fiction for some reason.

They are particularly good to listen to when you have a task you don’t want to do - like cleaning and they also make long car journeys and dog walks a bit more interesting.

One thing I don’t like is wearing headphones that mean that I can’t hear guests knocking or cars behind me on a walk. Plus I have never managed to get a pair of Apple ear buds to stay in my ears!

So I bought a pair of Shokz headphones. They sit under your ear, so you get good sound quality but  you can also hear what’s going on in the background.

Here are some of my favourite Audible listens.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

If you're looking to build a set of healthy, consistent habits, then this bestselling book by James Clear is a must listen to.

Food for Life by Tim Spector

As well as listening to audio books, I love to listen to Podcasts and one of my favourites is the ZOE podcast, which discusses the science behind our food, exercise and health. So I had to get this book when it came out. It's a fascinating read, especially if you're looking to adopt a more healthy lifestyle.

Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg

This book focuses on the power of starting with incorporating tiny habits into your life. Your mind then gets used to performing these tiny habits, so it's then easier to start forming the bigger habits

The Chimp Paradox by Prof Steve Peters

(click on the image above for more info )Anyone who has been on my course in recent years will know about the Chimp Paradox. In fact, in the Facebook Group, you’ll often hear members talking about their chimp!

It’s a simplified model for how your mind works and gives you techniques to help you control your emotions for a happier life.

Taste by Stanley Tucci

Whilst many people first encountered Stanley Tucci in a Devil Wears Prada, we first watched him in the Pelican Brief, then in Murder One; a favourite drama of ours from the mid 1990s.

He's also fabulous in Julie and Julia, all about Julia Childs.

Just recently we've been loving him in his series about Italy. My husband is a bit of fan of his, so I bought him the hard back version of this book. Whilst I rather enjoy listening to his voice on audible when I'm out walking.

The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins

This book is great if you’ve got into the habit of procrastinating, like when you should have started cleaning the rooms 30 minutes ago or you have a blog post to write!

What I know for sure by Oprah Winfrey

I’ve listened to this book 3 times now. It’s a like having a big warm hug from Oprah.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

I find it very hard to describe what this book was all about but I loved

Here’s what Amazon says

“Whether you long to write a book, create art, cope with challenges at work, embark on a long-held dream, or simply to make your everyday life more vivid and rewarding, Big Magic will take you on a journey of exploration filled with wonder and unexpected joys.”

Everything is Figureoutable

Marie Forleo is an American Business Coach.

  • “In this book you'll learn:
  • How to deal with criticism and imposter syndrome
  • Why it's crucial that you strive for progress not perfection
  • How to bounce back from failure
  • How to overcome a lack of time and money"

Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey

I rather fell in love with the sound of Matthew’s voice, after listening to him on the Calm app reading his sleep story, so getting this book was a no brainer. It’s his life story to date.
