Natasha's Law - New labelling legislation for prepacked direct sale food

breakfast recipe Sep 29, 2021

If you run a food business in Wales, England and Northern Ireland, then you may be affected by the new allergen labelling requirements that become law, Natasha’s Law, tomorrow, Ist October 2021.

To quote the Food Standards Agency Website:

“From 1 October 2021, the requirements for prepacked for direct sale (PPDS) food labelling will change in Wales, England, and Northern Ireland. The new labelling will help protect your consumers by providing potentially life-saving allergen information on the packaging.

Any business that produces PPDS food will be required to label it with the name of the food and a full ingredients list, with allergenic ingredients emphasised within the list.

Businesses need to check if their products require PPDS labelling and what they need to do to comply with the new rules.”

If you serve food to customers in your business you will need to check how the law affects you.

I held a ZOOM workshop for our B&B community yesterday with my friend, Rachel Jones of A470 Training, to discuss what B&Bs needed to know about the changes to law and what actions they needed to take.

For example, what does it mean if you offer a lemon drizzle cake for guests on arrival or a kilner jar of homemade granola on the buffet table?

If you’re already in the community, then please pop over to the facebook group and check out the link to the ZOOM call. The replay is available for a week.

I’ve also added the training into the online B&B course and the B&B Marketing Community, so if you were planning to sign up for the course or membership, you’ll have access to it there.

Rachel will be writing a special blog post for me in the next couple of weeks specifically about Natasha’s Law and how it impacts B&Bs.

In the meantime you can read more about how to cater for guests with food allergies here - How to Cater for B&B Guest's Dietary Requirements & Restrictions
